“Our absolute BEST accommodation in Spain by a long shot. Highly recommend this remarkably restored and modernised accommodation in magnificent old stone building. We stayed 4 nights here while we enjoyed the magic of Plansençia in the northern Extremadura region of western Spain. Using the original stone structure of a 16th century palace the architects have lovingly created luxurious rooming and eating areas that quite literally take you back through the centuries. Grand stone staircases and giant mirrors reflect the meticulous work of the stone masons and artisans who originally built this place. A huge glass roofed atrium has been created over what must have once been an open courtyard and is now a excellent restaurant serving exquisite meals. Vast granite columns and lintels still support much of this building but there's also been some very sympathetic modernization of some areas to ensure the place works as a hotel. As you check in you are offered a free glass of cava (sparkling wine). This type of service carries on with your host escorting you to your room and providing full details of how to take full advantage of you stay including a 2nd floor outdoor terrace overlooking the spectacular Plasençia Cathedral. The excellent service continues in the grand Gastrobar where we enjoyed drinks and nibbles each night. Just sitting in this space is truly awe inspiring. Our hostess here and in the adjoining restaurant was Tamara who treated us like royalty...a truly wonderful person who is absolutely dedicated to her job and to the establishment. We loved Placençia and this amazing hotel. You absolutely must book it.”
“Palacio Carvajal Girón made a strong and very elegant impression on us. The palace feels refined and timeless, with its beautiful Renaissance details, calm courtyard, and noble atmosphere. Walking through the space, you sense the history, but in a way that feels warm and inviting rather than distant or formal. It’s a place where architecture, light, and silence come together perfectly. Subtle, graceful, and full of character, Palacio Carvajal Girón was a memorable stop that added depth and charm to our time in Plasencia.”
“This hotel is very special. Firstly, it is in Plasencia, which is the most fabulous old town - close to birdwatching highlights of Monfrague NP. Second, the hotel is gorgeous. Our room was so comfortable, with everything provided for a relaxing stay. The views across rooftops to the cathedral, and mountains, were all I had dreamed of. Finally, the staff are just beautiful. Fun, friendly and professional. Especially Tamara, who ran the bar each evening - what a star. Absolutely one of my favourite hotels of all time.”
“Great experience, the hotel is well situated, nice modern rooms and welcome treats and nice bed for our dog. Good place to stay we enjoyed a dip in the jacuzzi which is included in the price. Very good welcome from our receptionist who helped with access to the parking and getting us settled. We felt welcome and cared for. The breakfast was simple, but adequate and there is a beautiful stone atrium room to eat in with nice furniture. Lots of travellers with dogs all enjoying their trip, it's a good place for pet travellers. Very clean and fresh and historic building full of charm and interest.”
“I liked this hotel a lot. On arrival they offered a refreshing drink or some cava which was very much appreciated and we had a glass before bed too. We had a junior suite which was very spacious and had the biggest bath you’ll ever seen in a hotel room. It took hours to fill but was a lot of fun as were the double showers. The hotel restaurant was very nice indeed. The portions weren’t over-facing and were very tasty and well executed. Service was helpful and cheerful. The room was very smart and clean. Quality bedding and furnishings. Breakfast was a Buffet with a short menu of hot egg dishes made to order which all came with optional bacon. We enjoyed breakfast here and it was high quality.”
“First things first: this place is an absolute gem! It’s perfect whether you're staying for a few days or just crashing for the night. The front desk staff were super friendly and spoke several languages fluently. Reception is definitely one of their biggest strengths. That being said, they say constructive criticism is a gift, so here’s mine: The weakest link is definitely the breakfast service. Everyone seemed totally lost, and the staff did nothing but ask for room numbers. I think a more proactive attitude, a simple "good morning," and actually offering to help would go a long way.”
